Abstract: Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are primarily characterized by joint and/or muscular pain, noise in the temporomandibular joints (TMJ), and limited or irregular mandibular function and includes a wide range of conditions. The aim of the study was to estimate the prevalence of temporomandibular disorders amongst patients reported at Saveetha Dental College. The retrospective study was conducted at the Department of Oral Medicine during the period of December 2017 to December 2019.Post reviewing 135 case records, a total of 100 cases were included for the study. The results of the study were compiled and expressed in frequencies and percentages. The percentage of females (70%) were higher when compared to males(30%).The prevalence of cases were seen mostly in the age group of 25-40 years. The common types of temporomandibular disorders seen in the study were internal derangement(58%) followed by myofascial pain dysfunction syndrome (20%). For management pharmacotherapeutics followed by self care(soft diet, physiotherapy) were effective in 75% of cases. Accurate diagnosis involves comprehensive history taking, thorough clinical examination and most appropriate investigations followed by a multidisciplinary approach to TMD management is essential in the fundamental care of all TMD patients.
