Pterygoid implant is one of the treatments of choice for replacement if missing teeth in atrophic maxillary posterior region without use of graft or sinus lift procedure. The present study aims to analyse the pterygomaxillary region three dimensionally for pterygoid implant placement. A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted at Saveetha dental college , Chennai .CBCT of 20 patients (10 males and 10 females) above 40 years of age with partially or completely edentulous resorbed maxillary posterior ridges who required replacement of missing teeth were selected. The mean length of the pterygomaxillary area was 21.16 ±3.89mm and width was 7.02±1.68 mm .The average buccal-palatal angulation was 81.26 ±2.71 degrees and antero-posterior angulation of the pterygomaxillary region is 73.58 ± 3.85 degree. Hence, the dimensions could help in presurgical implant planning in the pterygomaxillary region by understanding the anatomy of individual patient thus improving the success rate of the treatment.
