Despite the good clinical outcomes of the conventional techniques of vestibuloplasty, the need for grafting materials makes it an invasive procedure when using a split skin graft or other local soft tissue grafts. The quest for alternate materials led to the use of collagen membranes. Although previous studies have shown the efficacy of collagen membrane comparable to the gold standard free gingival graft for vestibuloplasty, more studies are needed to confirm the outcomes of these studies in order to gain more safety in patient care and replace the need for skin transplants. We report a case of vestibuloplasty performed by employing collagen membrane as a graft material instead of split skin graft in a larger defect created by Obwegeser’s combination vestibuloplasty.
