Any tooth which is affected by dental caries, needs a restoration to regain its function and esthetics unless it is damaged way beyond the salvageable limits. Various factors over a period of time play disastrous roles in the failure of a restoration. Replacement of a restoration is the most commonly advised treatment for a failed restoration and is being well accepted in the field of pediatric dentistry. The aim of this study is to evaluate the prevalence of defective restorations and to determine the clinical factors associated with the re-intervention decision in primary teeth in a departmental setup in a dental hospital. A total of 73 restored teeth of 40 pediatric dental patients were assessed and categorized using the FDI criteria. From the results, it is evident that accumulation of plaque around dental restorations plays an important role in failure of the restorations. Even though oral hygiene maintenance of the patient plays a vital role in success of the restoration, skills and techniques of restoration are more significant in rendering longevity to the restoration.More studies have to be carried out in restored primary teeth to analyse the factors leading to restoration failure and to analyse the factors associated with the re-intervention of the same.
