Abstract:

Oral potentially malignant disorders are a group of disorders of varying etiologies, usually tobacco which leads to clinical and histological alterations of the oral epithelium and has a potential risk of malignant transformation. Oral leukoplakia is a most prevalent potentially malignant condition characterized by an increased risk for malignant transformation. Histopathology of leukoplakia will present hyperkeratosis or parakeratosis with and without dysplasia. Treatment depends on demographic, social, clinical, and histopathologic factors. This article focuses on the personalized management of oral leukoplakia based on risk stratification which is based on clinical and histopathological features.
