Influence Of Various Cavity Disinfectants On Bond Strength Of Self Etch Adhesives- An Invitro Study

Author: KEERTHANA T, SINDHU RAMESH
Abstract: The aim of this present study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of self-etch bonding agents on human dentin with and without application of various cavity disinfectants.Class I cavity preparation was done on the occlusal surface of 60 freshly extracted premolars. Specimens were then divided into four groups with 15 in each group, G1 control group (without any disinfectant),G2-chlorhexidine group, G3-sodium hypochlorite group and G4-aloevera gel (commercially available) . All specimens were then restored with composite resin (3M) using one step self etch adhesive (Adper easy bond self etch). Shear test was performed using a Universal testing machine(UTM). Fracture modes were evaluated using Stereomicroscope. The mean bond strengths were analyzed using One way ANOVA (a = 0.05).G1 showed higher bond strength compared to other groups. G3 and G4 showed bond strengths similar to the G2 (P > 0.05). A significant increase in the bond strength in the G1 was observed (P < 0.05). G2, G3, and G4, the predominant failure mode was the mixed and adhesive failure. The prevalence of cohesive failure mode was noted in the G3.The control group exhibited the strongest bond; however, no significant differences were found with the disinfectant treated groups.
Keyword: self etch bonding systems, bond strength, cavity disinfectants, dentin adhesion, adhesive failure.
