Bipolar disorder is a mental disorder that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, concentration level, and one’s ability to carry out their day to day tasks. These moods range from periods of extremely energized behavior (known as manic episodes) to very “down,” sad, indifferent, or hopeless periods (known as depressive episodes). This study aims to assess the knowledge and awareness of bipolar disorder among teenagers. This was a survey-based study and was conducted in an online forum “Google forms”. This survey was taken by around 100 teenagers. The questionnaire was framed to evaluate the ideas and knowledge of teenagers about bipolar disorder. The information collected through the survey was analyzed using SPSS and presented as descriptive statistics. Out of the 100 subjects who took the survey, 75% were unaware of the fact that Bipolar disorder is a mental disorder with periods of depression and elevated moods (manic). About 80% of the subjects were unaware that stress was a major risk factor and that teenagers were at high risk of suffering from Bipolar Disorder. Only a mere 25% knew that 30% of people with Bipolar disorder have attempted suicide at least once. Of the survey takers, only 20% of the participants were aware of Bipolar Disorder. This number emphasizes the need to spread more awareness about the disorder as the occurrence of Bipolar disorder in the society is significantly elevated and negligence can leave a lot of people undiagnosed.
