Evaluating the Changes in Supra Erupted Teeth in A Patient with Partially Edentulous Condition

Author: A.SHAMAA ANJUM, DR.SURESH VENUGOPALAN
Abstract: One of the positional changes of the tooth which creates difficulty in restoring mutilated dentition is the presence of supraeruption. Supraeruption of the posterior tooth is one of the most common clinical findings in dental practice.Supraeruption is the eruption of a tooth from its fully erupted position without alteration in the position of its supporting alveolar bone level. The aim of the study was to investigate potential differences in teeth that are unopposed by their counterpart and the type of supraeruption and rotation that the teeth exhibit . The study was conducted at Saveetha Dental College and Hospital, Chennai. A sample size of 26 patients with partial edentulous condition were selected for this study and informed consent was obtained after explaining the details of the procedure. The impressions of the maxillary and mandibular arch were taken with alginate and dental casts were poured using dental stone and were used for analysis. It is evident from the study that most teeth that are unopposed by its counterpart in a period less than a year will exhibit supraeruption, mostly showing periodontal growth type. The teeth that are unopposed also tend to show buccolingual displacement and rotation. The study shows the necessity of replacement missing teeth.
Keyword: Supraeruption, rotation, displacement, edentulousness.
