Dental computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) systems have the potential to minimize inaccuracies in technique and reduce hazards of infectious cross-contamination associated with conventional multistage fabrication of indirect restorations. Instead of taking conventional impressions, the abutment teeth can be directly digitised using the computer assisted technology. Above the tooth preparation the scanner head is placed intraorally and two or three dimensional images are observed on the monitor. A questionnaire containing questions on awareness of CAD/CAM and its applications were given to a total of 151 general practitioners in Chennai. Data entered in Microsoft Excel sheet and then imported to SPSS software.Variable definition process was done using table and graphical illustrations. The data collected were computerized and analyzed statistically. The collected data were analyzed using IBM SPSS statistics software 23.0 Version. 69.54% of the participants had 0-2 years of experience and 30.46% of them had 3-5 years of experience. 70.86% of the study subjects were aware about the CAD/CAM systems and 29.14% of them were not aware about the system. More awareness must be created among the practitioners through workshops, seminars and continuing dental education programs.
