Presence of type 1 diabetes exhibits a wide range in this geographic population. Candida species often colonizes the oral cavity without presenting any lesions. Children with diabetes will be undergoing immunosuppressive treatment and are more prone for candidal species colonization. This study was undertaken to compare the presence of Candida species in children with Type 1 diabetic and non-diabetic children aged between 4-12 years. In this case-control study, 54 children of 4-12 years of age were included. Children were allocated into two groups, diabetic and healthy group. The unstimulated salivary sample was collected. The microbiological culture was done to check the presence of candida species. Chi square test was used for statistical analysis (p value-0.05). Candida sp. were frequently found in the oral cavity of the children with diabetes (55%) and less often in non-diabetics. There is increased Prevalence of Candida species in diabetic children.
