To examine the knowledge, experience, and trends associated with digital model use and the advantages of using a particular study model type in postgraduate orthodontic programs in Chennai. A questionnaire was prepared for this cross-sectional study which comprised ten multiple choice questions and was distributed to 127 postgraduates pursuing orthodontics in Chennai. Descriptive Statistics was calculated in terms of frequencies and percentages using SPSS software. Majority of the respondents i.e. 88.98% were aware that intraoral scanners could be used to make digital study models. A trend could be seen in the favour of digital model systems as 82.68% of the sample reported that digital impression is as accurate as conventional impression. 33.07 % of the respondents cited accuracy as a factor to choose digital impression in orthodontic practice. The results of the survey suggest a trend which is pointing towards increased use of digital models in the future. The limitations of this study are its small sample size and was done on a smaller section of the population. Further studies have to be done for a larger population and can serve in better understanding of the knowledge, aptitude and practice of intraoral scanner among postgraduates.
