Oral cancer is a serious disease that is on the increase. The most pressing need is early recognition and referral for specialist treatment. Too many cases present with advanced tumours. Radiotherapy and surgery remain the primary modalities of curative treatment, but understanding of tumour pathology and developments in surgical and radiotherapeutic technique have combined to produce a rational approach to management. The main aim of our study is to assess the number of patients visiting for management of oral cancer in a private dental institution. The retrospective data were collected by obtaining and analysing the dental case records of the university from June 2019 to March 2020. Patients with histopathological reports for management of oral cancer were included in the study. Patients who had undergone treatments other than oral cancer and incomplete patient records were excluded from the study. Case records were reviewed and cross verified by the guide as well as the examiner.Under pre surgical workup- management of the oral cancer section, datas related to age, gender and histopathological reports were extracted .Then the collected data was tabulated in the excel sheet. Statistical analysis was done using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software(version 20). Statistical tests included Chi square association analysis.71.43% of male patients were diagnosed with Squamous cell carcinoma, 14.29% of female patients were diagnosed with spindle cell carcinoma and 14.29% of patients were diagnosed with Verrucous carcinoma. Within the limitations of the current study, it was found that out of 7 patients visited for management of oral cancer , majority of the patients were diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma before pre surgical workup.
