Abstract:

Traumatic injuries are emerging dental problems in pediatric dentistry that may impact the children's quality of life. The cases of Traumatic dental injuries are increasing since the past decades. Dental trauma has been seen more in people who are involved in sports. The aim of this study is to find the prevalence of dental trauma in children.The cases records were collected and analysed from saveetha dental college and the data collected was based on children below 15 years old who had undergone dental trauma. A total of 58 cases were recorded. The data was tabulated in an excel sheet under parameters such as Age, Gender, Fractured tooth and type of fracture based on ellis classification of trauma. The data was later then imported to SPSS where analysis was done with chi square and frequency tests.The most common age group involved was 10 to 12 years age groups with boys having more predilection towards Dental trauma. Class 3 type of fracture was most commonly seen in this study.Untreated dental traumatic injuries have a negative impact especially on a child's life. Awareness has to be spread about these injuries in schools and on how to prevent these injuries by using tools like mouth guard.
