Knowledge, Attitude & Practice Survey On Digital Dentistry Among General Dental Practitioners

Abstract: The age of digitization has ushered digital dentistry which helps integrating new technologies and maximizing treatment outcomes. Thus utilization of digitization could be better for patient management and treatment outcomes.The aim of the present study was to assess the various factors that play an important role in the adoption of the Digital technology by dentists in general. The knowledge and practical skills of the dentists on utilization of Digital Dentistry were assessed and also their attitude to know the advancements in Digital Dentistry Technology was evaluated.A cross- sectional survey with a structured questionnaire consisting of 25 questions was performed among general dental practitioners and 150 responses obtained were recorded.The majority of the respondents (76%) reported using Digital Imaging Technology in their practice and their choice of digital dentistry depended upon the clinical situation. This KAP survey gives us the result that most of the dentists do follow with the adoption of Digital Dentistry. However, their knowledge regarding the latest digital imaging technology in dentistry and interest to know more in this genre plays a very important role. The overall response rate for this study was 66.40%. Of the general dental practitioners, 67.46 % have knowledge about the digital imaging techniques with 60.43 % have the positive attitude towards digitization technology and 71.36 % are using digital imaging techniques in their practice. Thus Digital technology has significantly elevated the rate of success in all the fields of interest in dentistry , improving the quality and accuracy of dental work. Digital imaging technology and related computer-aided design technologies for digital manufacturing and discovery of new dental materials have shown pronounced impacts on the diagnostic process, practice management and improved outcome of dental treatment procedure. Proper applications of digital technologies will considerably help attaining the highest professionalism and better treatment results.
