Objective: Obesity is an excessive accumulation of fat that poses a health risk. The differences between the subgroups of metabolically healthy obesity (MHO) and metabolically unhealthy obesity (MUO) are less well understood. Studying the difference between MHO and MUO in the Kazakh population can be applied for more accurate prevention of the transition from MHO to MUO.
Material and methods: The main study group consisted of 402 obese patients, control group (CG) 137 participants. In the study groups, the differences in the median values of anthropometric and biochemical parameters were studied and the chances of having a pathological condition were assessed.
Result and discussion: According to the analysis, it was found that the number of men and the proportion of family members with MUO is greater (p <0.05). The MHO subjects were characterized by young age, short stature, and low blood pressure and visceral fat index (p> 0.001). Biochemical parameters in MUO and MHO were higher than in CG.
Conclusion: MHOs have relatively good anthropometric and biochemical indicators showing the protection of these people from chronic diseases, but they have an increased risk compared to people of normal weight.
