Knowledge Level Of Clinic Students In The Oldest Dental Medicine Faculty On The Handling Hiv-Positive Patients

Background: Currently Indonesia is faced with health problems, namely HIV / AIDS. This is due to the lack of basic information about sexual health and the spread of HIV / AIDS. Based on data from the Republic of Indonesia Ministry of Health (2017) since the discovery of AIDS cases for the first time in 1987 until December 31, 2006, the cumulative number of HIV / AIDS infections reported was 13,424 cases, consisting of 5,230 people with HIV positive (not showing AIDS symptoms) and cases AIDS 8,194.
Purpose: To determine the level of knowledge of the clinical students of the Faculty of Dentistry, Airlangga University regarding the handling of HIV patients.
Method: used in this research is quantitative with descriptive methods. The research subjects were clinical students of the Faculty of Dentistry, Airlangga University who provided research data through questionnaires. Subjects were distinguished by age, gender, and class, with a simple random sampling technique with 96 samples.
Results: the percentage of good level of knowledge on handling HIV / AIDS class of 2014 patients was 63.5% and class of 2015 was 54.3%. Percentage based on female sex in 2014 and 2015 was 64% and male was 43.5%.
Conclusion: the class of 2014 has a better level of knowledge in handling HIV patients than the class of 2015. While based on gender category, in the class of 2014 and 2015, women have a better level of knowledge than men.
