Objective
The objective of this study was to compare the measured transverse values between conventional study models and digital study models.
Materials and methods
Twenty sets of maxillary plaster study models with full complement of permanent dentition were collected and the same plaster study models were converted into digital models. The transverse measurements on the maxillary study casts like intercanine, interpremolar and intermolar were measured using both manual method and digital method. A paired t test and descriptive statistics were done to find the difference in the mean among the two groups.
Results
The intercanine, interpremolar and intermolar measurements showed a P value of >0.05 indicated that there was no statistically significant difference in the measurements obtained from both methods.
Conclusion
The transverse measurements obtained from both conventional and digital study models were found to be reliable and hence digital model measurements can be used as another option to conventional plaster models.
