Ultrasonographic Assessment of Duration of Pregnancy by Utilizing Fetus Kidney Length in Second and Third Trimester

Author: DR.ZENA.M.AL HINDAWI
Abstract: Background: The length of both fetus Kidneys as a judging factor for the pregnancy duration. At late stage of second & third trimester both fetus kidneys can be envisioned and straightforward measured. Most common parameters used in second and third trimester like BPD, HC, FL and AC are not very accurate for dating the pregnancy. The Fetal kidney length measurement has been shown very strongly and nicely for correlation with gestational age in weeks even in fetuses with IUGR. Objective: Is to appraise that the measurement of the length of the fetal kidney is a good and valid parameter for estimation period of pregnancy mainly in its late stages. Method: This prospective study included 150 healthy pregnant female mean age of mean age of 27.06 SD± 5.7 (ranging between 18 and 44 years old) with normal single fetuses had been enrolled outpatient clinic from November 2018 to February 2020. The analysis of fetus kidney length were achieved from 17th weeks to 40th weeks gestation. Result: the ultrasonographic finding evaluation of this study show how the utilization of length of fetus kidney as a judging factor solely or alongside conventional factor for assessment of pregnancy duration in 2nd and 3rd trimester. There is a positive linear relationship which have been found between gestational age (which measured by femoral length) and length of left kidney with R2 =0.930 and p value=0.000<0.05. There is another statistically important positive linear relationship was also found between gestational age (which measured by femoral length) and length of right kidney with R2 =0.925 and p value=0.000<0.05. Conclusion: The length of Fetus kidney measurement is valid as other standard protocol for judgment the pregnancy duration.
