Changes in C- Reactive Protein/Albumin Ratio and Mortality within 30 Days in HIV/AIDS Patients

Author: ETTY PRATIWI, USMAN HADI, MUSOFA RUSLI
Abstract: Background: Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) attacks and decreases the human immune system and weakens host defense against infection and diseases. We analyzed changes in C-reactive protein (CRP)/Albumin ratio as a non-invasive marker, which hopefully can find out HIV progressivity better than measured CRP or albumin each ones in HIV/AIDS patients. Methods: This prospective longitudinal analytic study involved 50 samples of HIV-infected patients from May to August 2019 in Dr. Soetomo Hospital, Surabaya. CRP/Albumin ratio measured on day 1 and day 3 after admission. Results: The average CRP/Albumin ratio difference test on the first and third day was carried out in using the Mann-Whitney test. There was a significant correlation between CRP/Albumin ratio with mortality in day-1 with p=0.009 and in day-3 with p=0.01. The changes between those ratio were also correlated with p=0.01. The mortality rate was correlated with CRP/Albumin ratio increases, and patient with ratio over 4 had a poorer clinical outcome in comparison with other patients. Conclusion: CRP/Albumin ratio and its changes are associated with mortality, even though evaluating other factor which may interfere outcome patient with HIV/AIDS is needed.
