Author: MAHEK MISTRY, VIKAS R. CHANDRAKAR, HEMRAJ SINGH RAJPUT, KALINDI KUMBHANI
Abstract: Epilepsy is one of the most common neurologic disorders and occurs throughout the age-span from a multiplicity of causes and is found in 1% of the general population. Anti-seizure drugs (ASDs) represent the mainstay of treatment for epilepsy, but at least one third of affected individuals continue to experience spontaneous recurrent seizures. Such medicines are helpful to treat patients but on second side it also has some common and serious adverse drug reactions. A 63 years old male patient was on medicine Tab. EPSOLIN (100 milligram (mg)) (1-0-1) since last 30 years. In March, 2019 he had sudden diplopia and abnormal walk and came to tertiary care hospital. He underwent serum level of Phenytoin was normal (6.4 microgram/millilitre (µg/ml)). For the management of this reaction tapering of Tab. EPSOLIN (100 mg) (1-0-1) was done and replaced with another drug. Better vigilance is necessary for implementation of safe and effective treatment for each individual patient. In-order to prevent adverse drug reactions of this drug, close monitoring during treatment course creating awareness, recognition of the problem and careful management of all patients who receive this medication are essential.
