Stress defined as a condition typically characterized by symptoms of mental and physical tension or strain, as depression which can result from a reaction to a situation in which a person feels threatened or pressured or both. Students who successfully enter choice of their professional course such as medical education will be encountered with monumental tasks of completing the path in a productive way. When students enter medical college/university campus they come with high enthusiasm and dreams but as time goes on a number of students lose their way and come under stress and decrease in motivational levels. These factors affect their academic performance. Cross sectional study was conducted in the Department of Biochemistry, SBKS MI & RC, SVDU for consecutive two batches 2016-17 & 2017-18. Total 506 first year MBBS, BDS & BPT students were studied for age, gender and Blood Pressure. Stress was assessed by PSS-10 scale. Two groups were identified as their PSS score, stressed and non-stressed. Academic Performance were assessed by Formative assessment records which include the first internal and pre-university exam. Present study assessed correlation between PSS-10 score and Academic Performance showed that with increasing PSS-10, academic performance of the student decreased significantly. As the severity of perceived stress increases due to academic factors and many others will lead to reduced academic performance of Health professionals students There is a need to introduce the measures which will make the students capable of tackling the stress.
