Background: Osteoporosis is the common problem in the elderly, in particular menopausal women of more than 50 years old. In general, people have Calcium average at 254 mg / day, one-fourth of the normal intake in older people (1000-1200 mg / day). Insufficiency of Calcium can be Overcome by Calcium supplements and adequate intake of food and drink. Meat, milk, egg, and rich of Calcium. Green vegetables Including papaya, Sauropus androgynus, Moringa oleifera, Chinese cabbage leaf Contain high Calcium. Calcium requires vitamin D metabolism and vitamin C to Enhance bone mass density. The research was to evaluated the effect of Chinese cabbage and key lime in increasing bone mass density in premenopausal and postmenopausal women. The objective was to evaluated juice of Chinese cabbage and key lime on bone mass density in premenopausal women.
Method: The research was an experimental pre-post control design. The population were 103 premenopausal and postmenopausal women. Women aged between 40-60 years old in Mersi are 82 women. The samples were collected by purposive sampling method, 32 women. Juice of Chinese cabbage and key lime was prepared from 440 grams of Chinese cabbage and one key lime, and consumed every 2 days for 7 weeks. Bone Mass Density was measured by OsteoSys. Data was analysed by t-test.
Result: Premenopausal and menopausal women in the control group at 100% undergwent osteoporosis; in the intervention group at 75% osteoporosis and osteopenia at 25%. The osteoporosis women in the intervention group had a 50% Become osteopenia (6 women). The women had juice of Chinese cabbage and key lime for 7 weeks that Increased bone mass density at 17.5% (t = 3.22, p = 0.003).
Conclusion: Juice of Chinese cabbage and key lime every 2 days for 7 weeks Effectively increases bone mass density in premenopasal and menopasal women aged 40-60 years. Further research is suggested to Evaluate the benefit of Chinesee cabbage and key lime juice to complemen or substitute calcium supplementation in premenopausal and menopausal women.
