Construct Validity and Reliability of the Adherence to Malaysian Cupping Practice Guideline Questionnaire for Cupping Practitioners

Author: M. AIN, AR. ZAIRINA
Abstract: Cupping (or bekam) practice guideline has been developed by Malaysian Ministry of Health in 2011, mainly to optimize patient care and protect the patients together with practitioners from getting infected from cross contamination during the treatment. This study aimed to determine the validity (exploratory factor analysis) and reliability (internal consistency) of newly developed questionnaire designed to measure adherence to Malaysian cupping practice guideline for cupping practitioners. The existing literatures showed no available tool to measure adherence to practice guideline specifically for cupping practitioners. In the subsequent of the initial phase of content validity, here comes perpetuation of construct validity and reliability. A self-report questionnaire encompassed of 28 items, divided into 5 domains was developed based on the existing Malaysian cupping practice guideline. The 5 domains were (1) cupping procedure, (2) hand washing, (3) standard precautions, (4) documentation and (5) equipment sterilization. A convenience sampling was conducted among 56 respondents from Selangor. The exploratory factor analysis revealed final items to be 23 with acceptable factor loadings and Cronbach’s alpha to measure the constructs.
