Laparoscopic Ovariectomy in Goats with different Techniques

Author: MAJID ALKHILANI, BASSIM K. KHASHJOORI, K.H. ASHUR, ALI. A. AJEEL, MOHAMMED. J. EESA
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate three methods of laparoscopic ovariectomy in goats by monopolar electrocautery, clipping by titanium clips and ligation by suture loop absorbable materials of ovarian blood vessels. Twelve adult goats were divided randomly into three equal groups anesthetized by thiopental sodium 5% at a dose of 25mg/kg B. W/ IV., to facilitate intubation of tracheal tube to maintain inhalation anesthesia with halothane. In all three groups there were minimal hemorrhage during operation, less pain and animals return to eat after complete recovery from anesthesia, laparoscopic examination after one week post operation showed minimal adhesion between the stump and omentum. The electrocautery among the three methods was the simplest and easiest to achieve for resection and hemostatic. In clipping group although it was easy, but it need more time to apply 2-3 clips around the vessels, while in the third group the suture loop was more difficult and required more training and good experience. The operative time in group A was about 20-30 minutes and in group B about 30-40 minutes, while in the group C it was 50-55 minutes. The ovariectomies by electrocautery and by clips are preferable methods, as they are simpler and saver compared with suture loop.
