Age, Duration of Marriage, Years of Treatment, Anger Experience and Expression among Infertile Women in the Treatment

Author: DEVIGA SUBRAMANI, DR. MAYA RATHNASABAPATHY
Abstract: Infertility is an emotionally challenging experience. Among infertile women, anger can be a consequence of prolonged infertility. Anger can be a cause of increased stress women experience during infertility. This study investigates the role of age, duration of marriage and years of treatment on anger experience and expression among infertile women in treatment. The investigator approached infertility clinics and hospitals to meet the sample and gathered data from a hundred and three (103) infertile women using a demographic questionnaire and Spielberger’s State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory. The researcher analysed the data using Independent sample t-test, correlation and regression. The results show that Trait Anger is influenced by ‘age’ of infertile women and those who are less than 30 years of age had more Trait anger than older women. Anger Temperament is influenced by age, duration of marriage and years of treatment. Infertile women who are less than 30 years of age have more Anger Temperament than older women. Duration of marriage and years of treatment significantly predict Anger Temperament. Anger Out is influenced and predicted by duration of marriage and years of treatment. This implies that as the age of infertile women, duration of marriage and years of treatment increase Trait Anger, Anger Temperament and Anger Out reduces. We infer that infertile women deal with anger effectively with age. During the initial phase of treatment, infertile women would experience and express anger and may require psychological and social support in dealing with anger effectively.
