Aim: To investigate a possibility of application of KHSO5 as a reagent in the oxidimetric determination of platyphylline hydrotartrate.
Materials and methods: Platyphylline hydrotartrate was determined by indirect titration with KHSO5. The required amount of platyphylline hydrotartrate was dissolved in water, pH buffer solution (?? 8.5-9.2), and KHSO5 solution was added. In 3-5 min, the solution was acidified. The excess of KHSO5 was iodometry titrated applying visual end-point detection.
Results: The results of the quantitative determination of PT in a solution for injection of 2 mg•ml-1, tablets 0.005 g and 0.5 % ophthalmic solution prepared ex tempore showed satisfactory precision and accuracy: RSD= 1.68%, [(? ¯- µ) 100% / µ] < RSD. The recovery of this analyte in the preparation sample ranged from 99.5 to 105 %.
Conclusions: The advantages of the applied analytical techniques in the determination of platyphylline hydrotartrate in pharmaceutical preparations have been presented. The applied technique was very simple, convenient, accurate, precise, and economical.
