Optimization of parameters for extracting biologically active substances medicago sativa l.

Author: NATALIA FOTINA, ANASTASIA I. DMITRIEVA, ALEXANDER YU. PROSEKOV, IRINA S. MELENTEVA
Abstract: Medicinal plants are traditionally used both in alternative and traditional medicine for the prevention of various degenerative diseases (cardiovascular, oncological, inflammatory, etc.). In pharmacology, medicinal raw materials are used due to the presence of active chemicals as agents for the synthesis of medicines. Medicago sativa L. is a promising source of valuable biologically active compounds. For the purpose of obtaining Medicago sativa L. extract the method of extraction with ethyl alcohol when heated with a reverse refrigerator is used in the study. In this paper, the parameters of extraction of the main groups of biologically active compounds (phenols, flavonoids, saponins) of the root culture Medicago sativa L. are considered and the antioxidant activity of the obtained extracts is determined. The extraction parameters were optimized according to the following criteria: extraction temperature (t = 40 °C), extractant concentration (C = 60 %), extraction exposure (t = 2 h). Extracts of Medicago sativa L. root culture obtained with these operating parameters have a maximum antioxidant activity of 31.83 ± 2.3 mm EAAT / g of dry weight, due to the content of phenolic compounds (19.34 ± 1.8 mg ha / g of dry weight), flavonoids (7.19 ± 0.9 mg R / g dry weight), saponins (4.89 ± 0.7 mg CA / g dry weight). The obtained results have suggested that the extract of the root culture Medicago sativa L. is a potential source of natural biologically active compounds for creating functional food products with a geroprotective orientation.
