Background: The evidence in the literature is still inconclusive about the effectiveness and safety of the various cervical ripening agents. Out of a spectrum of the cervical ripening agents available today obstetricians need to choose a ripening agent which has higher probability of providing a successful outcome which in this case is successful vaginal delivery.
Objectives: To study the effectiveness and safety of oral mifepristone as a pre-induction cervical ripening agent in term pregnancy. To study the effectiveness and safety of oral misoprostol as a pre-induction cervical ripening agent in term pregnancy.
Methodology: A prospective observational study including 250 women at term between 37 to 40 weeks of gestation was conducted in ABVRH Sawangi. women who received misoprostol were categorised in group A and women who received mifepristone were categorised as group B. The changes in bishop score after administration of the above two drugs were observed and compared.
Results: the study will include 250 antenatal women who will be admitted for induction of labour at term. Women who have been administered mifepristone will have a better bishop score as compared to misoprostol and in turn will have a higher rate of vaginal delivery with minimal rates of perinatal and maternal morbidity and mortality. Women on misoprostol will have a higher rate of caesarean sections and requirement of obstetric interventions and nicu admissions for neonates.
Conclusion: There will be significant difference in improvement in cervical ripening score as well their effect on labour outcome when mifepristone and misoprostol are used as pre-induction cervical ripening agent in term pregnancy.
