Background: Efficacy and reliability of PIRO scoring system in predicting mortality in patients admitted to the hospital ICU with sepsis, severe sepsis and shock(septic) is assessed.
Objectives: Efficacy of PIRO scoring in assessing prognosis and predicting mortality in patients presenting with sepsis, severe sepsis and shock(septic) to the hospital ICU and also to compare PIRO score with APACHE IV and SOFA scores.
Method: Patients satisfying the predetermined criteria (inclusion and exclusion) will be enrolled into the study. PIRO, SOFA and APACHE IV will be calculated on arrival for all the patients to 24 hours of ICU admittance. All the 3 scores will be reassessed on 3rd day of enrolment. The sums of all 3 scores will be compared. All the patients will be followed up to 28 days. Mortality at 28th day will be assessed based on the individual PIRO, SOFA and APACHE IV scores.
Expected outcome-Outcome of this study could be that PIRO score is better as compared to APACHE IV and SOFA scores,in assessing the prognosis and predicting mortality in patients admitted to the hospital ICU with sepsis as shown in previous studies.
