Background: About 3 lakhs new OSCC cases being noted each year, which makes this an important part of burden of cancer worldwide. Prevalence of Oral cancers is 45 % So, Vimentin as a marker of transition from epithelial to mesenchymal component will be useful in early diagnosis of metastasis in lymph nodes in cases of OSCC and hence management of these cases can be done early.
Objectives: Present study will be done to determine the histopathological grade by Broder’s grading system, to evaluate Vimentin expression and its correlation with metastasis in lymph nodes in OSCC cases & to analyze correlation between Vimentin expression and histological grade of OSCC.
Methodology: Our observational, analytical & cross-sectional study will be conducted with Total 50 resected specimens of OSCC cases, clinically suspected operated in department of oral surgery, AVBRH, Sawangi (Meghe), Wardha. The resected specimens will be grossed, processed and evaluated for histopathology and Vimentin expression.
Results: In our study, we are expecting that VIMENTIN positivity is in accordance with spread to lymph nodes & predicting a poor outcome in OSCC patients.
Conclusions: Our study will make an attempt to make accurate diagnosis of OSCC associated with spread in lymph nodes. IHC analysis can be used as an adjunct in grading OSCC in correlation with Broder’s grading chart. Mesenchymal markers like Vimentin will be valuable help in diagnosing lymph node spread in OSCC patients & also in its management.
