This study was carried out in Department of Anesthesiology, Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, Karad during a period of two years. Patients were randomly allocated into two groups by coded slips for drug combinations. The use of Ketamine as an anesthetic with its unique qualities, in TIVA technique, along with the newly introduced drug Dexmedetomidine was studied in a double blind comparative study. The Ketamine dose requirements were found to be significantly reduced when used with Dexmedetomidine compared to convention Midazolam and resulted into a good, co-operative sedation pre-operatively, with very stable hemodynamic state perioperatively, adequate anesthetic state intra-operatively, no respiratory depression and smooth, pleasant stress free clear headed anesthetic recovery within 90 minutes.
