Evaluating Sealing Ability of Three Different Furcation Perforation Repair Materials

Author: DR. MATIGATTI
Abstract: Resorptive processes, iatrogenic causes or caries may induce perforations. It has been reported that perforations were the second greatest cause of failure. The quick sealing of the perforation and the successful healing of the lesion are crucial for salvaging the tooth. The management of perforation is still a challenge for endodontists. Moreover, perforation peritonitis is the most common surgical emergency in India. Despite advances in surgical techniques, antimicrobial therapy and intensive care support, management of perforations continues to be highly demanding, difficult and complex. This study was conducted to analyze stereomicroscopic dye penetration study evaluating sealing ability of three different endodontic furcation perforation repair materials involved in the treatment of root canal wall perforations. For the study patients were divided into 3 groups and performance as well as reliability of different materials was analyzed. It was found that MTA and Biodentine achieves the best in reliability on treating perforations, where Biodentine surpasses MTA in the treatment of root canal perforations.
