From time immemorial plants have been used as a source for health care by human society. In this study, a polyherbal preparation was prepared using extracts of five medicinal plants such as Commiphora mukul hook ex stocks., Cedrus deodar roxb- loud., Bauhinia variegate., Achyranthes aspera linn. and Picrorrhiza kurroa royle ex. Benth.. The present study is undertaken to evaluate Anti-hyperlipidemic potentials through in-vivo methods of the polyherbal preparation prepared in-house. The rats were fed with high fat diet for the induction of hyperlipidemia for 4 weeks. Upon confirmation of disease induction the animal experiments were conducted as per standard protocols. The hyperlipidemic rats were administered two graded doses of polyherbal preparation and the standard control group was treated with Atorvastatin (10 mg/kg) orally for 14 days. After treatment blood samples from normal/positive control/control (HFD) /standard/polyherbal preparation (low/high) dose were collected and lipid profile, atherogenic index, serum biochemistry examination of liver and renal function were determined. After sacrificing the animal, histopathological study suggested that polyherbal preparation produced significant hypocholesterolemic effect.
