Serum Interleukin-17 Associated with Disease Activitiy in Psoriatic Arthritis Patient

Author: AHMAD ZAMAHSYARI, LITA DIAH RAHMAWATI, JOEWONO SOEROSO
Abstract: Background: IL-17 is thought to play a major role in psoriatic arthritis (PsA) pathogenesis, which is characterized by IL-17's detection on the skin, and synovium in psoriasis. This research examined the relationship between IL-17 and PsA. Methods: This was a cross-sectional observasional analytic study. The Caspar Classification Criteria had been used to diagnose the PsA. Serum IL-17 levels were examined using the ELISA method, while PsA disease activity was assessed by calculating the Disease Activity in Psoriatic Arthritis (DAPSA) score. Result: This study was enrolled thirty-two patients, consisting of 8 males subjects and 24 females subjects. The median age was 51 years, ranging from 17 to 60 years. Clinical presentation of symmetrical polyartritis in was found in 16 subjects (41%), asymmetric oligoarthritis in 13 subjects (33.3%), predominant DIP 7 in subjects (18%) and predominant spondyloarthritis (axial type) 3 in subjects (7.7%). The mean DAPSA score was 23.22 ± 9.0. There was a significant positive correlation between serum IL-17 levels and DAPSA scores (P = 0.019, r = 0.412). Conclusion: PsA disease activity with DAPSA score was related to the levels of serum IL-17.
