Corrosion Inhibitory Influences of Synthetic Schiff Base On Aluminum in Hydrochloric Acid

Author: HUTHAM YOUSIF, FATIMA ALLAWI ABDUL SEJJAD , EMAN HASSAN SAHAP
Abstract: Background: O-Tolidine is a commercially important aromatic amines used for shiff bases production and Azo dye. Aluminum can be usually utilized for corrosion resistant metals. The rigid and hard oxide film shaped upon the aluminum surface create it resistant to corrosion. Methods: This paper contains prepared Schiff base compound by condensed O-Tolidine with 4-hydroxy benzaldehyde in absolute ethanol. This compound has been typified by melting point, FTIR analysis. The inhibitor effect of Schiff base on aluminum corrosion in 1M of HCl solution was studied. The experiment was taken in HCl solution at altered temperature (298, 308,318, and 328 K) and by utilized altered concentration of inhibitor and the mass loss was ended. Results: The thermodynamic parameters and activation energy of inhibition effect of Schiff base compound under examination on the corrosion procedure have been intended at altered temperature. We were noted the influence of inhibitor was reduce with rising temperature . The efficiency os synthesis Schiff base inhibition declines almost per temperature. The efficiency of inhibitor amplified by increasing concentration of inhibitor. Conclusions: The observed inhibition of the corrosion of aluminum is assumed to be due to the adsorption of the studied Schiff base molecule on the metal surface and the subsequent blocking of the metal’s active sites.
