“Role of Panchakarma therapy in the management of Pakshaghata” A Case Study.

Stroke is defined as the sudden death of brain cells due to lack of oxygen caused by blockage of blood flow or rupture of an artery to the brain. In Ayurveda, it is correlated with Pakshaghata based on the signs and symptoms. Pakshaghata is one of Vatavyadhi where impairment of Vata Dosha is seen. In Ayurveda Panchakarma play a major role in the management of Pakshaghata. Here is the case study of a 43 year old male patient complaining of Dakshina Shareera Ardha Karma Alpata, Vakaspashtata, Mukhavakrata, Lalasrava, Dourbalyata, Gamane Kashtata since 20 days was diagnosed with Ischemic Stroke and he was admitted in Parul Ayurved Hospital Panchakarma department. Panchakarma procedure like Udvartana, Parisheka, Abhyanga and Nasya were adopted and Shamana Aushadhi like Pathyadi Guggulu Cap-Palsinuron, Lashuna Ksirapaka, Dashamoola and Jatamamsi Kashaya and Talu Lepa was given. At the end of the treatment marked improvements were seen in the patient, like the patient was able to speak, increased in muscle power, muscle tone and patient was able to walk without support.
