Formulation of flurbiprofen as microsponge drug delivery system

Author: ZAHRAA KADHIM, HASANAIN SHAKIR MAHMOOD, MARYAM ALAAYEDI
Abstract: The aim of present study was to formulate flurbiprofen (FP) as a microsponge technology. This technique enhances the release of drug from the system. FP is a drug belongs to NSAID groups that classified as class II by BCS with low solubility and high permeability. FP is an antipyretic, analgesic that is effective in management of group of diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, gout, osteoarthritis and others. The microsponge technology was a patented delivery system in which the drug loaded in pores of cross-linked polymers. In this technique, FP was mixed with two phases. In phase I and phase II, the PVA and Eudragit E100 were used, respectively, with a different dose of FP. The microsponge yield and entrapment efficacy, FTIR, particle size and dissolution test were studied. Preparation of FP loaded microsponge using Eudagit E100 in ratio of (500 Drug: 100 Polymer) succeed to enhance the drug dissolution rate with accepted entrapment efficiency and percentage yield.
Keyword: Microsponges, flurbiprofen, solubility.
