To understand polyphenol and antioxidant activities from medicinal plants usually need for traditional and modern pharmaceutics. The study focused on a comparative analysis of polyphenol content and antioxidant activities of 37 medicine plant species commonly distributed in Vietnam to find a relationship between polyphenol content and antioxidant activities. 96% ethanol extracts of 37 different species that analyzed for polyphenol content and antioxidant activities (total antioxidant, reducing power, and DPPH free radical scavenging). The results showed polyphenol content varied from 9.116 ± 0.173 to 57.595 ± 2.534 mg gallic acid equivalent/g DW, corresponded to species Brassica rapa chinensis and Persicaria odorata, respectively. Total antioxidant activity, reducing power, and DPPH free radical scavenging varied from 0.949 ± 0.018 to 6.962 ± 0.258 mg ascorbic acid equivalent/g DW, 0.399 ± 0.015 to 16.791 ± 0.756 mg FeSO4 equivalent/g DW, and (62.73 ± 2.04)% to (81.15 ± 2.69)%, respectively. The highest total antioxidant activity, reducing power, and DPPH free radical scavenging was in species Brassica chinensis var. parachinensis, Piper sarmentosum, and Brassica rapa chinensis, respectively.
