InsurFit - Client Health Monitoring System for Health Insurance Companies Using Smart Wearable Devices and Data Visualization

Author: ALBERT JONATHAN, MUHAMMAD EHSAN RANA , ANDDR. V. SIVAKUMAR
Abstract: As health insurance companies are trying to find innovative ways to attract more clients and maintain premium cost, health insurance companies are keen on exploring smart wearable devices such as Fitbit Alta and Garmin Vivosmart 3 to gain an understanding of clients’ habit for scientific and marketing purposes. However, clients are hesitant on giving their health data to the health insurance company as they are a concern with their privacy. Meanwhile, health insurance companies are trying to maintain clients without having to increase the premium cost as rising premium costs will scare away clients. Health insurance companies have a hard time to make their business cost-effective because clients can make false claims to gain more benefits while medical costs keep increasing due to hospitals are upgrading their services. As a result, a cloud-based web application that gathers clients’ health information such as sleep, calories and number of steps is proposed so that health insurance companies can understand associated health risks faced by clients and understand clients’ lifestyle. At the same time, health insurance agents can use the system to interact with clients more and offer a lower premium to the clients. Hence, the web application will cover many functions for health insurance agents and clients including viewing the personal information and health summary, exporting client’s data, integrating clients’ wearable devices with their account, seeing client’s performance in charts daily, and editing clients and agents personal information.
