Root canal failure that is caused during endodontic treatment is primarily by Enterococcus faecalis an facultative anaerobe
. Herbal medicines that represent a rich source of antimicrobial agents are found to be effective against E.faecali. The
aim of our study is to investigate the antibacterial activity of Aesculus hippocastanum(Horse chest nut) Ethanolic seed extract
against Enterococcus faecalis, an facultative anaerobe that causes root canal failure in endodontic treatment. Antibacterial
screening was performed by determining Minimum Bactericidal Concentration by broth culture method. The study concluded
that the ethanolic seed extract of Aesculus hippocastanum does not show antibacterial activity at various concentrations
ranging from 62µg/ml to 10mg/ml against E.Faecalis.
