Therapeutic Effects of Olive Oil on Rabbit with Lead Toxicity

Abstract: Olive oil were used to therapy of some damage induced by lead toxicity in rabbits. A twenty local rabbits were distributed into four groups, each group have 5 rabbits, group 1 control negative, group 2 given lead acetate at fifteen mg/ kg/day for 15 days, group 3 given lead acetate at fifteen mg/ kg/day for 15 days then treated orally with 1 ml/ Kg olive oil twice daily for 10 days, group 4 given only 1 ml/ Kg olive oil twice daily for 10 days. Liver and kidney samples were taken for histopathological study which preserve in 10% formalin till processing done. The histopathological results showed a livers with blood vessels congestion with a focal aggregation of mononuclear inflammatory cells in the portal triads and mild hyperplasia of Kupffer cells in group 2, a mild inflammatory cells and mild congestion in liver of group 3 and a normal liver architecture appear in group 4. Moreover, Kidney in group 2 showed necrosis and desquamation of epithelial cells, while group 3 showed a slightly normal renal tissue. Also, group 4 showed normal architecture after treatment with olive oil. In conclusion, liver and kidney damaged induced by lead can be treated with olive oil for 10 days.
