Background: Mefenamic acid is common nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug that is routinely prescribed. This promotes the searching for fast and reliable method for the quantification of Mefenamic acid in Mefril-250 capsules. Accordingly, the standard addition technique is utilized diversely with the utilization of spectrophotometer for drug analysis.
Methods: Twenty Mefril-250 (Mefenamic acid 250mg) capsules were weighed and an equivalent amount of 100 mg of Mefenamic acid was dissolved, mixed, sonicated, and filtered. Thereafter, suitable volumes of the Mefenamic acid standard were inoculated and read in the spectroscopy at 288 nm.
Results: The absorbance versus concentration of Mefenamic acid standard addition curve shows good linearity (R2=0.9873). While the LOD and LOQ were found to be as 0.00794 and 0.02646, respectively. Finally, the content percentage was 99.32%.
Conclusion: The researchers find that the standard addition protocol is a robust technique to conduct rapid, reliable, and valid procedure for the determination of Mefenamic acid in Mefril-250 Capsules.
