Objectives: The objective of the present paper is to investigate safety and effectiveness of percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL) in treating pediatric patients with urolithiasis.
Patients and methods: A total of 62 pediatric patients underwent PCNL at our center between Mar 2016 and Jul 2019. Operative time, stone type, stone clearance achieved, postoperative complications, and the time of hospital stay were analyzed.
Results: The mean age was 7.27±3.61 years, we observed that in the pediatric patients mean operative time was 39.75 ± 20.64 min, mean hospital stay was 2.14 ± 0.53 days and the final stone-free rate was 90.32%., we did not observe any rare complication but 2 patients required transfusion and 9 patients required DJ stent.
Conclusion: PCNL is a safe and effective procedure to treat urolithiasis in pediatric patients.
