Background: Corticosteroid resistant asthma patient population is not large, but the morbidity is high. This highlights the urgent need for strategies to improve the glucocorticoid response. Glucocorticoids are by far the most effective therapy for controlling asthma and suppressing airway inflammation mainly through repression of active inflammatory genes, but also by increasing transcription of anti-inflammatory genes. Much research has been done on Nigella sativa oil on asthma, however research on the influence of Nigella sativa oil administration on eosinophil number, neutrophil number and serum IgE levels in corticosteroid resistant asthma mice has not been reported.
Method: 20 female Balb / C mice aged 2-3 months, divided into 4 groups. Group, I was normal to control without treatment, group II was negative control exposed to OVA/ OVA/ LPS, group III was dexamethasone group exposed to OVA/ OVA/ LPS + dexamethasone, group IV was NSO group exposed to OVA/ OVA LPS + Nigella Sativa oil. Day 0 and 14 except for the normal group OVA-sensitized i.p. On days 21, 23, 25 resensitization with 1% OVA inhalation with a nebulizer for 20 minutes. Day 27, 28, 29 induced LPS in the maxillary left molar gingival sulcus. Provision of test preparations carried out on days 30 to -43 orally. On the 44th day, the blood of the mice was taken through the eye to check the number of eosinophils, number neutrophils, serum IgE levels.
Results: Nigella sativa oil can decrease the number of eosinophils, neutrophils and the serum IgE levels with a p-value <0.05, of corticosteroid resistant asthma mice with a p-value <0.05
Conclusion:
Nigella sativa oil has been shown to be statistically significant in reducing the number of eosinophils, neutrophils, serum IgE levels in corticosteroid resistant asthma mice.
