Proportion of Maxillofacial Trauma Resulting among Children: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Abstract: Background and aim:Trauma has become a major health problem. It is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality children and adolescents and when the face is affected, it can lead to esthetic, functional and psychological problems. This study pointed to determine via systematic review and meta-analysis the extent of maxillofacial trauma resulting from distinctive etiologies among children Method: MEDLINE, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, ISI, google scholar were used as electronic databases to perform a systematic literature between 2005 to 2019. A commercially available software program (Endnote X9) was used for electronic title management. Searches were performed with keywords, “maxillofacial”, “maxillofacial trauma”,” trauma”,” children OR child OR pediatrics”, “epidemiology OR etiology” “facial injuries” , “maxillofacial injuries”. The present systematic review was performed based on the main consideration of PRISMA Statement–Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses Result: A add up to 1792 potentially important titles and abstracts were found amid the electronic and manual search. Finally, a total of fifteen publications fulfilled the inclusion criteria required for this systematic review. The combined prevalence of RTA was 44.55% (95% CI, z= 150.38, p = 0.000), Falls with 31.05% were the second leading cause of maxillofacial trauma (95% CI, z= 149.01, p = 0.000). Conclusion: that road traffic mischances represent the most cause of maxillofacial trauma among children. In any case, results ought to be deciphered with caution due to the tall heterogeneity.
