Antituberculosis assay in-vitro of ethanolic, n-hexana, chloroform, ethyl acetate extract of Cordyline fruticosa (L) A.Cheval leaves

Abstract: Purpose: According to WHO has identified so much people with tuberculosis disorder, and includes a disease that causes death. Mycobacterium. tuberculosis has been resistant to the synthetically antituberculosis drugs. Traditionally Cordyline fruticosa (L) A.Cheval leaves (andong in Indonesia) used to treat cough and bloody sputum. This study conduct to investigate the potency of ethanolic, n-hexana, chloroform, ethyl acetate extract of Cordyline fruticosa (L) Chev as anti-tuberculosis in vitro. Methodology: The extract of Cordyline fruticosa (L) A.Cheval leaves was prepared by percolation using ethanol, and fractination using n-hexana, chloroform, ethyl acetate as solvent. Mycobacterium tuberculosis was isolated, identification and cultivated from bronchial fluid (sputum) speciments tuberculosis disorder in Pulmonary Disease Treatment Centre Medan Sumatra Utara. Antituberculosis assessment examination conducted by Mycobacterium tuberculosis of ethanolic, n-hexana, chloroform, ethyl acetate extract of Cordyline fruticosa (L) A.Cheval leaves was performed at concentration of 200mg/ml, 100mg/ml, and 50mg/ml by Lowenstein-Jensen (LJ) method against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, compared to commercial preparation of Rifampicin 40µg, Ethambutol 10µg, Isoniazida 0,2 µl. Result: Ethyl exacetate extract of the Cordyline fruticosa (L) A.Cheval leaves could inhibit the growth of Micobacterium tuberculosis, useful as an antituberculocis compared to extract of ethanol, n-hexana, chloroform, ethyl acetate extract 100 mg/ml exhibited a strong inhibition against the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis from sputum of tubercolosis disorder similarly to Rifampicin 40µg, Ethambutol 10 µg, and Isoniazida 0,2 µg commercial preparation.
