Study of PCOS in Acne

| Abstract:

Acne Vulgaris is recognized as one of the most communal dermatological condition which affects the adolescents
and young adults all across the globe and in India. An underlying systemic disorder needs to be always considered
when evaluating for acne and polycystic ovarian syndrome constitutes the most common condition associated with
acne. Hence the current study has been planned with an aim to fill this knowledge gap and enhance the
understanding of the association between acne and PCOS. The study findings can be an important step towards
the holistic and interdisciplinary care of women presenting with acne.The mean age of the women reported with
Acne was24.88 ± 3.968 years in the study.More than 80% of the study population was overweight and obese,
indicating a high prevalence among women with acne.Comedone and papule were the furthermostcommunal type
of lesion in the current study. The most common site of lesion in the current study was chin, followed by cheek. In
minority of the subjects, it was present on thechest, back and upper back. The grade of acne was mild in more
than half of the study population. The proportion of women with moderate and severe acne was 29.36%and
12.84% respectively. Hirsutism was present in 94.5% of the study population. The proportion of women with mild,
moderate and severe hirsutism was32.1%, 29.4%and33.0% in the study.
