The estimates of osteoporosis based on the internationally accepted normative data of Caucasians may not be
suitable for the Indian population, and they may overestimate the prevalence of osteoporosis as Indian
population is reported to have lower normal bone mass compared to the Caucasian counterparts. There are
efforts made to develop normative data for Indian population by Indian council of medical research (ICMR). A
large multi centric study was carried out. The clinical consequences of the osteoporosis induced fragility
fractures can be enormous. Apart from leading to temporary or permanent physical disability, they put the
person and family involved under huge psychological stress. The direct economic consequences due health
care costs and the indirect economic consequences due to loss of wage and caregiver time can be a huge
financial burden on the family. The huge physical, psychological and economic burden due to osteoporosis at
personal, family and community level warrants effective interventions to prevent and manage osteoporosis to
minimize this burden. This research work proposes association of femoral with religion of study to know the
prevalence of regional osteoporosis in patients.
