Evaluation of the Effects of Valeriana of Ficinalis Hydroalcoholic Extract on the Morphology of Cerebral Hippocampus Astrocytes in Rats

Abstract: Parahypocamp and hippocampus are old regions of the cortex. Limbic system on different aspects of emotion and behavior, including fear, anger, and feelings of sexual acts affect. The hippocampus is also involved in short-term memory. The scientific name valerian officinalis valerian plant native to Europe, Asia and North America. The dried root of this plant, oil extracts obtained in the treatment of sleep disturbances, depression and muscle relaxation to reduce stress. In this study, is checked the effects of valerian hydroalcoholic extract on morphology of astrocytes in hippocampus of the rats brain.40 Sprague dawley rats, were randomly divided into four group received distilled water and group testing one, two and three with 300,400,600 mg extract daily; except Friday, by oral gavage for three weeks and on the tenth day, were tested. Brain tissue samples fixed with conventional testing methods provided and checked the size and number of astrocytes with olympus microscope. And the data collected were analyzed with spss software. As this study was, hydro alcoholic extract of the valerian plant, at the doss studies , had efficacy in increasing the number and reduction of large diameter of astrocytes of Hippocampus of rats brain. It also increases the amount of extract increases its efficacy has been studied in more groups.
