Author: NAWRAS HUSSEIN, DR. JABBAR ABADI MOHAMMED
Abstract: The study was performed at the animal house of Biology department, College of Education for girls and included the use of 16 laboratory rat animals of Sprague-Dawley strain,12 female and 4 males (for vaccination only) randomly divided into four equal groups: the first group was administrated with distilled water (negative control),the second group was orally administrated with aqueous extract of Cassia senna leaves 100mg/kg/day, the third group was orally administrated with aqueous extract of Cassia senna leaves 150mg/kg/day, the fourth group was orally administrated with aqueous extract of Cassia senna leaves 250mg/kg/day. The treatment of all groups (experimental animals) was once daily (1- 20 day of pregnancy). The histological examination of embryo livers that treated with plant extract100mg/kg/day pointed to obtain haemorrhage. As for 150mg/kg/day pointed to obtain dilation of the sinuses, the appearance of cells of the Thame, increase the size of the nucleus to the cytoplasm, nuclei fragmentation and increase haemorrhage. In 250mg/kg/day pointed to obtain haemorrhage, the appearance of cells of the Thame, congestion of central vein, dilation of sinusoid and vacuolization. We conclude from the present study that the aqueous extract of Cassia senna is not safe for consumption and has negative effects so we recommend to avoid its use, especially on pregnant women.
